I work on a laptop all day. And I like to game when I’m not working… if only there was an invention that sorted me out whichever I was doing!
I’m not actually in the market for a gaming laptop, but it being my job to look out for the best kit for creative/gamer types, I think this 2025, 15-inch, 16GB, RTX 5060, MSI Cyborg model would be a perfect fit for many. And with $300 sliced off the top over at Walmart, it’s now generously priced at $899. Perfect for gamers or someone looking for their next laptop for game development alike.
Usually budget gaming laptops come with undesirable compromises: a decent display but a weak graphics card; a nippy CPU paired with cheap-feeling chassis.
Specs
Processor: Intel Core 7-240H
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060
Memory: 16GB DDR7
Storage: 512GB SSD
Display: 15.6-inch FHD, 144Hz
OS: Windows 11
But the MSI Cyborg laptop defies that trend. It features the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, and comes with a hefty 16GB of GDDR7 (Graphics Double Data Rate 7) RAM. That’s awesome for gamers, obviously. But it’s also great news if you’re a digital artist or video editor looking to future-proof your setup without taking out a loan This is a really good, versatile, and powerful laptop.
It’s more than a look
The MSI Cyborg series has a distinct cyberpunk look, with translucent elements that let you see the inner workings of the machine. Whether you like the look is totally subjective, of course. I like the sturdy, will-last-a-decade aesthetic. But it’s what’s going on inside this 2025 model that really impresses me.
Most laptops in the $1,000 price bracket are still clinging to last Gen RTX 40-series graphics cards. By jumping to the RTX 5060, you’re getting the latest architecture from NVIDIA, which means better power efficiency and better AI-upscaling. If you’re a creative, that extra GPU grunt isn’t just for frame rates – it’s for faster 3D renders in Blender and smoother scrubbing through 4K timelines in Premiere Pro.
Then there’s the 16GB of DDR7 RAM. Seeing DDR7 in a consumer laptop at this price point is a big deal. That represents a speed that’ll handle multitasking across even Adobe Creative Cloud like a very, very fast thing.
Swap 144Hz for 4K
The 15.6-inch FHD display may be a deal breaker for some. It is not 4K, which high-end photo editing, for example, demands. But what you get instead is a 144Hz refresh rate. However, at 15-inches 1080p is a bit of a sweet spot for performance. The insanely high refresh rate ensures that everything from gameplay to simple UI animations feels butter-smooth.
Powered by the high-performance Intel Core 7-240H chip, you should be able to have your render running in the background while you jump into a Zoom call or browse for references without the whole system grinding to a halt. It’s a powerful little puppy.
Ultimately, finding a current generation model that checks both great CPU and GPU is pretty rare. I’m used to seeing reduced prices to shift last generation stock – but this laptop is barely a year old.
The 512GB SSD is perhaps the only area where you might want to upgrade down the line if you have a massive library of 4K footage. But all things considered, I think this is a fantastic laptop deal.
