If there’s one thing the internet loves, it’s a bit of nostalgia, and big brands aren’t blind to this. From retro pop-culture collabs to throwback design, it seems every brand has hopped on the vintage-loving bandwagon, to the point where it’s getting a little… old.
Joining the ranks, Burger King’s new campaign is all about embracing the throwback – except this time it’s not being subtle. In the ultimate act of committing to the bit, BK’s retro-packed campaign is total shameless nostalgia porn, and surprisingly, I’m here for it.

In an unexpected homage to its more… mature diners, Burger King has launched an exclusive menu inspired by ’80s and ’90s pop culture. The hilarious yet savagely titled ‘Boomer King’ campaign features a curated menu and exclusive goodies, including a Saved by the Bell pair of socks, a Knight Rider T-shirt, a Charmed mug, or a Beverly Hills, 90210 branded glass. Are these enough to warrant calling ’90s kids ‘boomers’? Sadly, I’m not the one to make the call, but hey, they’re bringing back Canada Dry.

Created by creative agency Buzzman, the Boomer King campaign is accompanied by an ad jam-packed with bald spots, back pain and flying wigs (just to rub it in that extra little bit). Playful, provocative and delightfully silly, the Boomer King campaign is a great example of a brand taking a trend and turning it into something refreshingly self-aware – but I guess that’s easy to say as an unscathed Gen Z.
