This article is about the upcoming untitled John Wick game, which is intended for adult audiences.
There was a lot to take in at the PlayStation Showcase yesterday, but the biggest surprise has to be Saber Interactive’s “Untitled John Wick Game”. No, it’s not a sequel to Untitled Goose Game but, according to Saber, “the ultimate John Wick gaming experience that fans have been waiting for”.
Unlike Bithell Games’ John Wick Hex, Saber’s offering aims to make players feel like they’re in a John Wick movie, playing as Keanu Reeves in the role of Baba Yaga. The trailer certainly suggests that at least the cinematics will capture the gun-fu style of the films with remarkable fidelity, with the animation truly nailing characters’ movements (see the trailer below).

The biggest buzz is about Keanu Reeves lending his voice and likeness to the game, reprising his role while we wait for news on John Wick Chapter 5. For many fans of the movies, that’s essential for authenticity.
The game’s credibility is also backed up not only by the fact that Lionsgate, producer of the movies, is involved, but also John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Chad’s involvement could be why the trailer’s stylish close-range gunplay and martial arts choreography feels so true to the films.
The narrative focus also has a lot of potential. In contrast to the tactical spin-off John Wick Hex, Saber, which developed Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, promises a cinematic, story-driven experience matching the scale of the movies. The game will take place before the ‘impossible task’ (note the absence of a wedding band), offering a fresh perspective on Wick’s career for longtime fans.
What the trailer doesn’t show, of course, is any gameplay. How well it succeeds as a game is likely to depend a lot on the fighting system and how it combines gunplay, melee combat and environmental combat, and to what extent the player can control that combination. Will players be able to choose what they want to use in the environment while in combat?
