The internet loves an optical illusion, and while there are countless different types of brain-boggling visual phenomena, sometimes the most unexpected ones are the best. This time, all it took was a herd of wild horses and a carefully framed drone shot to capture one of the internet’s hottest new illusions.
From the physiological to the cognitive, the best optical illusions trick our brains by defying the logic hardwired into our nature. A prime example of how perspective can play with our perception, this deceptively simple video has collectively blown the minds of many. See if you can decipher what you’re seeing.
Captured by photojournalist Jason Childs, the magical video features a shot of horses galloping along a sandy shoreline. While at first things look pretty normal, it eventually becomes clear that what we’re seeing is, in fact, the elongated shadows of the steeds, although admittedly, getting your brain to make sense of this takes a minute.
“Why do the horses have brown and white shadows?” one Redditor wrote, while another added, “I thought they were black horses that had some wild dogs running with the pack.” Another confused user joked, “Who taught all these horses to be so good at horse shadow puppets?”
